Revell 03947 Northrop F-5E Tiger II

Northrop F-5E Tiger II

By: Revell

Scale: 1/144

Item no: 03947 Price: £4.99

Web: www.revell.de/en

Northrop’s F-5 Tiger is a small aircraft, but it’s positively tiny in 1/144 scale…which makes this kit from Revell even more commendable.

There’s a well-appointed cockpit, complete with side consoles and decals for the instrument panel, and a passable ejection seat. Exterior panel lines are represented as fine engraved lines, and while appearing initially over-scale, this should be reduced once painted. It’s the finer touches that impress, such as the hollow aft fuselage auxiliary doors and the inclusion of LAU-117 launch rails (omitted from most 1/72 and even 1/48 kits) for the AGM-65 Mavericks. This is a great value offering, with plenty for modellers of all skill levels to enjoy. There is one minor (and easily correctable) faux-pas, as the wingtip missile rails are the wrong way around – the taper should be on the inner, not outer edge. Just a single scheme is supplied, for an ‘aggressor’ aircraft, which is a shame, as it negates the lovely weapons supplied (two each AIM-9 Sidewinder, AGM-65 and underwing fuel tanks and a single centreline tank), although the air-to-air missiles could be modified easily to represent a range data-link pod. The featured airframe is:

01528/Red 28, 64th Aggressor Squadron, 57th Adversary Tactics Group, USAF, Nellis AB, 1985
