Eduard 2118 Sikorski JRS-1 The Boat

Sikorski JRS-1 ‘The Boat’

By: Eduard

Scale: 1/72

Item no: 2118 Price: €56.25

Sword’s 1/72 Sikorski JRS-1 gets the Eduard treatment in this limited-edition release, which combines the original parts with extra resin items, a canopy mask and delightful photo-etched (PE) metal fret, which caters for interior and exterior features. In addition, a 28-page supplement, by Patrick A Robinson and David Aiken, provides plenty of reference material for this little-known design, with less than 30 operated as utility transports by the US Navy, Marine Corps and Army Air Corps. Notably, five machines were pressed into service as reconnaissance aircraft in the immediate aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, armed with a mix of rifles and hand-held machine guns. Comprising four runners (one for transparencies), the styrene parts are basic, with a mixture of engraved and raised detail, but several are marred by sink marks and mould seams are prominent in places. PE enhancements to the instrument panel and cockpit ceiling will improve this area, while adding the suggested wires for the outrigger floats and wing support stanchions will have a similar effect externally. Eduard’s usual excellence with decals is repeated, as the colours have sharp delineations and the density of the white should prevent any bleed-through from underlying colours. There are seven US Navy schemes in all, four in drab wartime colours, but three are adorned with colourful pre-war liveries, bright green tails and yellow upper wings:
